System Requirements for BFC Programming
 

• Visual Studio .NET 2008 SP1
   
• Microsoft C#, Visual C++ and/or Visual Basic (VB.NET and VB6)
    
• Windows 7, 2008, 2003, and Windows XP
   
• At least 1 GB RAM recommended
   
• 2 GB free hard drive space for development
  (for class libraries, help system, third party libraries, plus debug & release builds of Demo & Starter Applications, Internet Server demo, and room for your own application, along with optional sample local database)
   
• Database software (one or more of the following versions or higher):
  • IBM DB2 Universal (v 9.7) (Windows, Linux/Unix, OS/390) and iSeries (v. 6.1)
  • Microsoft Access 2000
  • Microsoft SQL Server (v. 2008, 2005, 2000)
  • MySQL (v. 5)
  • Oracle (v. 11g, 10g, 9i) (Windows, Unix, and Linux)
  • Sybase Adaptive Server (v. 12.5.1)
  • Sybase SQL Anywhere (v. 6.0)

Presentation tools such as Crystal and Pinnacle Graphics are built into BFC, so it is not necessary to install these packages.  The required headers, libraries and DLLs are installed as part of BFC.  However, if you want to review sample code, utilities, or documentation for any of these products, you may want to install the software.  Also, to implement any new reports using Crystal, you must install Crystal Reports, and to implement any new graph, you must purchase Graphics Server 5.5. (Crystal 8 or 8.5, the last versions to support MFC, is required to develop MFC C++ Windows Crystal reports, and Crystal 11 is recommended for developing C# or VB.NET, ASP.NET web, or WinForm reports that support high quality printing.)
